Chris Risher, Principal
Growing up in the building industry, and working alongside his father in the garage building furniture, Chris knew construction was his passion. After graduating from The University of Texas (BS, Finance), he jumped head first into the home building industry. Working for two of the largest national home builders, Chris rapidly gained a tremendous amount of experience. He moved quickly through the ranks – first, managing on-site construction of hundreds of homes, then planning large scale master planned communities, securing development rights, and putting development teams together for award-winning projects.
Chris left production building to focus his craft in central Austin. With a love for old houses and high craftsmanship, his partnership with Jeremy has allowed him to work on some of the finest and oldest homes in Austin. Whether it is an old or new home, Chris’ standards and eye for detail never change.
In his spare time, Chris is a skilled craftsman – building his own furniture, cabinets, and even his own home. In an effort to stay deeply involved in the real estate community, Chris is a past board member of the Real Estate Council of Austin and currently serves as the Immediate Past President for Austin’s National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI). Chris is a NARI Certified Remodeler, a certification bestowed upon less than 1% of remodelers nationwide. Chris was recently named one of Professional Builder magazine’s “40 Under 40″ builders.
Jeremy Martin, Principal
Jeremy, a third generation builder, is a graduate of The University of Texas (BS, Engineering with High Honors). Having spent time at Fortune 500 giants like IBM and Intel, Jeremy combined his corporate experience with his love of building and launched his home building career in 2001.
Although he started pacing job sites at four years old, at the heels of his father and grandfather, he started in earnest building infill housing in several East and South Austin neighborhoods. Prior to RisherMartin, he built a diverse home building and renovation firm that constructed a range of products from affordable cottages to luxury homes in some of Austin’s most exclusive communities. He has built production homes in the suburbs, Tuscan inspired golf course mansions, and Austin Energy rated green homes in the city center.
Jeremy has done everything from finish carpentry to managing on-site construction, interfacing with architects and designers, and running sales, marketing and financial operations. He uses his long-standing relationships with trusted suppliers and subcontractors to ensure that RisherMartin clients have access to the highest quality and most well-run crews available.
Jeremy has engaged heavily in continuing education and certification. He is a National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Graduate Builder, and Certified Green Professional. Jeremy has recently attained the highest certification offered by NAHB, that of Graduate Master Builder. In 2015, Jeremy served as Chairman of the Custom Builder and Remodeler’s Council with the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin. He is currently a member of the HBA Board of Directors and is a licensed Realtor. Jeremy’s committed industry participation earned him the 2015 Custom Builder of the Year award from the HBA of Greater Austin. Jeremy is a frequent contributor to Qualified Remodeler magazine and was recognized as a “Rising Star” by the National Association of Home Builders. Jeremy was recently named one of Professional Builder magazine and Professional Remodeler magazine’s “40 Under 40″ builders.
Samantha Ramsey, Controller & Pre-Construction Services Manager
Sam graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University with a BA in Political Science. During the 82nd Legislative Session, she worked for the Texas House of Representatives and the House Committee on State Affairs. Following the session, Sam joined a local construction management company where she gained experience in bidding, purchasing, and back office operations.
Sam brings accounting and office management experience from her earlier small business ventures to RisherMartin, where she is responsible for day-to-day operations. Sam has built and refined many of our mission critical accounting systems. Her precise nature, coupled with her reliability, ensure proper handling of our client funds. Her meticulous internal processes provide peace of mind for the RisherMartin team and our clients throughout the construction process.
Additionally, Sam’s attention to detail has made her an invaluable resource for our Pre-Construction Services Department. Accurate interpretation of plans, specifications, and selections is a tedious and critical role she has mastered. This tight control ensures our ability to accurately estimate and purchase all of our residential projects.
In June 2016, Sam earned her Certified Remodeler (CR) designation from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry, joining a select group of construction industry professionals and making RisherMartin the only firm in Austin with three Certified Remodelers on staff.
After graduating, James spent six years as a field project manager for one of the largest home builders in America. He honed his construction and project management skills by delivering over 400 homes to satisfied owners.
James brings a high level of personal pride and accountability to our project management team. With a sharp focus on schedule, budget and quality control, James works diligently with our suppliers and subcontractors to execute highly complex renovation and custom home projects.
Because of his focus and unique skillset, James delivers an incredible experience for our clients, providing clear communication and best-in-class customer service. In 2013, James completed Parkside Residences, named Project of the Year by Builder Magazine and Custom Home Magazine. In early 2016, James earned the coveted Certified Remodeler designation from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
James Talley, Project Manager
James began framing homes at the age of sixteen. After proudly serving his country in the United States Marine Corps, James returned to his passion for carpentry, accepting a position with Trim Tech of Austin.
During his twelve-year tenure, James fine-tuned his project management and communication skills, gaining experience in all aspects of the trade. As a field manager, James personally oversaw the installation of custom millwork and cabinetry in thousands of homes in Central Texas.
In his free time, James earned his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. James is tri-lingual, and possesses a keen eye for detail. He recently earned the Certified Remodeling Project Manager designation from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry. His blend of management, planning, and on-site construction knowledge ensures our clients receive an organized and enjoyable experience.
John Hart, Project Manager
After serving in the United States Marine Corps, John started his building career working for himself, where he gained valuable hands-on experience in numerous trades. He subsequently worked for some of the largest national and regional homebuilders in Dallas, where he successfully completed over 500 homes. He then moved on to a large multi-family developer, overseeing construction of multiple apartment projects in various states. He has spent the past decade building high-end custom homes, fulfilling his true passion.
John is driven by the challenges that come with every project. For each and every detail he is focused on providing clients with the best quality of workmanship possible while always striving to introduce new techniques and standards that will improve the overall project experience. Because of these traits, he is a true asset to our clients and architect partners.
John is a graduate of Tyler Junior College with an Associate of Arts in Business Administration; Texas A&M University-Commerce with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and a minor in Business; and Texas A&M University with a Master of Architecture.
Dan Byers, Project Manager
With thirty years of experience in the construction industry, Dan Byers joined RisherMartin to continue pursuing his passion and love for a craft he has spent over half his lifetime perfecting.
Starting his construction career in the late 1980’s as a Union Carpenter working on hotels and casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan strived for more, which led him to acquire his Bachelor of Building and Construction Management from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. After achieving his education, Dan would go on to work for two of the top five builders in the country, Del Webb, and D.R. Horton, where he built Single Family, Multi Family, and Custom Homes.
After years of honing his skill, Dan eventually started his own construction company in and around the Las Vegas area, with a prime focus on the Las Vegas strip casinos as a Union Contractor, performing specialty construction such as structural steel, misting systems, and overall general contracting. During this time, Dan also operated a secondary division of his company, building high end custom homes for celebrities and casino executives.
With the downturn of the economy Dan eventually decided to sell his company in 2011 and break away from the fast pace and bright lights of Las Vegas and relocate to beautiful Austin, Texas.
Dan’s devotion and enthusiasm for the building industry and his commitment to produce the highest quality of custom homes make him a valuable asset and perfect fit for the Risher Martin team.
Joseph Tedesco, Assistant Project Manager
Joe came to RisherMartin Fine Homes with a very diverse and deep construction background. As an Assistant Project Manager, Joe’s professional skills in both residential and commercial construction have been invaluable to our organization.
Having worked in the plumbing, electrical, carpentry, sheetrock, and tile fields, Joe is able to communicate and manage our subcontractor partners effectively. Joe is a roll your sleeves up kind of guy who has also operated heavy trenching, excavation, and skid steer equipment. Extensive OSHA and CPR classes also make sure he understands how to manage a safe and productive worksite.
Like all of our employees, Joe has a passion for continued personal and professional growth. After putting in a long day, Joe still finds time to take continuing education courses at the Home Builders Association and is continuing his coursework towards a Business Management degree.
Collin Burns, Assistant Project Manager
Originally from Lubbock, Texas, Collin came to RisherMartin Fine Homes with extensive customer service experience. His years within the service industry helped develop excellent customer service skills and honed a deeply ingrained work ethic.
As an Assistant Project Manager, Collin has been able to translate this productive drive along with his passion for client satisfaction into a better experience for RisherMartin clients and subcontractors. From clean, organized, and safe job-sites, to increased trade efficiency, our team and our projects have benefited dramatically from having Collin on-board.
Collin, like the rest of the RisherMartin team, has a strong desire to continue his education and personal growth. While working tirelessly at RisherMartin job-sites during the day, Collin is also enrolled in local coursework when his schedule permits.
Jennifer Namie, Bookkeeper & Office Manager
Jennifer graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Building and Construction Management and cum laude from St. Edward’s University with a MA in Counseling.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Jennifer worked for the Federal Government coordinating construction projects in Southern California. In this position she improved her communication skills while moderating between private interest groups and local, state, and federal agencies. She fine-tuned her organizational and planning skills on a variety of projects including a multi-million dollar visitor’s center.
After working with the government, Jennifer turned her attention to small businesses where she managed day-to-day operations and bookkeeping. She utilized her organizational skills and attention to detail to create efficient systems and accurate books. Jennifer supports our team by keeping the internal processes running smoothly and efficiently. She works closely with our subcontractors and suppliers to manage job-site insurance requirements and ensure bills are accurate and paid on time.
